Candy Cane Rice Krispie Treats! Another fun Christmas recipe great for friends, neighbours, teachers, whoever!
Last year I was seeing a lot of coloured Rice Krispie treats in various shapes and I thought I’d take a stab at making some myself. Instead of cutting them out with cookie cutters though I cut the treats into strips and carefully folded over the top half to make a candy cane shape! They worked great! The kids loved seeing the different layers of colours as well.
Step 2: Make a batch of Rice Krispie Treats adding red food colouring to the melted marshmallows before adding the Rice Krispies. Dump the entire batch onto the cookie sheet.
Step 3: Carefully roll out the rice krispie treats to about a 1/4″ thickness using the cookie sheet as your guide. The batch didn’t quite fit the whole cookie sheet so I started at one end and went as far down as I could. The key is to get the treats thin and into a rectangular shape.
Step 5: Make a batch of green rice krispie treats and dump them out onto the white layer and roll them out.
Step 8: Carefully fold the top half of the strip down into a hook shape forming a candy cane. You can use the whole strip to make one large candy cane or you can cut the strip down and make smaller ones. The size of the candy cane rice krispie treats depends greatly on the size of the cookie sheet you used.
That’s it! For some extra stability you can adhere the Candy Cane Rice Krispie Treats to some card stock using a little bit of icing and then put them into clear cello bags. This makes them a lot easier to give out as gifts. Or just throw them on a plate and enjoy!
